The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) on Friday paraded seven graduates with fake exemption and exclusion certificates of the Scheme.

Parading four of the suspects at NYSC headquarters before they were handed over to security personnel, the Director Certification of Service, Alhaji Hudu Aliyu Taura stated that the fake certificates were detected when the employers of the suspects brought their certificates to be verified by the NYSC.

“Some employers sent certificates to us for verification. In the course of that, we found 17 certificates to be fake. But when we invited the affected persons to come with the originals of such documents, they brought only seven” he said.

Taura who explained that three of the suspects absconded during the cause of verification, disclosed that the suspects confessed they got the certificates from other sources, adding that they had paid certain amount of money to get them.

He said none of the staff of the scheme was involved in the fraud, revealing that the management has compiled the report with their written statement which would be handed over to the security personnel for further necessary actions.

While appealing to other employers of labour to forward the certificates of their employees claimed to be issued by the NYSC for verification, the Director also urged them to contact NYSC with the certificates during recruitment to ensure the genuine ones are recruited.

One of the suspects, Olatunde Abolorin who claimed innocence, narrated how those of them interested in the exemption certificates  were asked to register by the then coordinator who works in the school as soon as they were through with their part-time programme.

“After six months, we were called to come and pick it up. I never knew that what he issued to us was fake. To tell you the honest truth, I wasn’t forced to come  toNYSC. I came here because I wanted to check the geniuses of the certificate.

“When I came here, I was taken to their legal department where I was told that the certificate was fake.

“I paid N25,000 for the certificate. Information is important. As at that time, I never knew that one can’t get an exemption like that because I wasn’t working and doing the part time studies too. I finished from North American University, Benin Republic and I read Economics,” he said.
