2012 budget; FG charged to ensure full implementation

A member representing Ulkum, Katsina-Ala and Logo federal constituency of Benue State in the House of Representatives, Barrister Emmanuel Udende has charged the federal government to ensure full implementation of 2012 National budget.
Speaking exclusively to New Nigerian, Emmanuel Udende said the call became imperative due to the fact that, the low level of budget implementation is adverselt affecting capital projects in the Country.
He said that the national budget should not be seen as an annual exercise but should be taken as a means of transformation, stressing that, the level of budget implementation for this year is far below average.
Udende said that development of rural infrastructure was paramount for the transformation of agrarian communities in Nigeria.
It was against this background the law maker said, he has embarked on the drilling of 35 boreholes in 35 words in his constituency.
Barrister Udende added that he has commence intervention programme in education in his constituency where he has awarded contracts for the construction and furnishing of classroom blocks in Community Secondary Schools in each of the five clans in his constituency.
According to him, a 500kva transformer has also been provided for the Government Technical School which before now was without electricity to ensure conducive atmosphere for the students.
Barrister Udende also disclosed that he was embarking on a scholarship scheme for all students in Tertiary institutions in his constituency, adding that the committee on the award of scholarship has completed its work and all is now set for the flag off of the scheme.
The law maker who described his relationship with the governor as cordial commended the transformational programmes of Governor Gabriel Torwua Suswam of Benuel state which he saw are aimed at improving rural infrastructure development.
Emmanuel Udende also charged local government chairmen in the country to discard the mentality of self enrichment but focus on people’s oriented projects.
On the state police, the law maker warned that Nigeria is not yet ripe for that, citing examples of some state governors who may want their parties should win local government election.
He said the state police may be abused, adding that the government should embarked on overhauling of the police force.
