Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti State on Thursday declared that Yoruba leaders are the major problem facing the entire Yoruba race.
The governor stated this in Ibadan while speaking at the Yoruba Summit tagged “Yoruba standpoint on restructuring” held at the Lekan Salami stadium.
He said without mincing word, Yoruba leaders are the real stumbling block for their race with their utterances and action especially a personality that once held a prominent position in the country .
“I believe we are here to tell ourselves the truth, nothing but the truth. For me, I will continue to say the truth and I will say it here. As we are here, our main problem in Yorubaland are our leaders. They are the enemies of the entire race. With what is happening here now, with all what we are saying, by tomorrow, you will see these leaders on television saying another thing. It is our leaders that will be on television to say I don’t believe in restructuring,” he said.
The governor emphasized that it is high time we return to regional structure in the country adding that this can only be done through a sincere restructuring of the country now before it will be too late to do so in the overall interest of the country.
Governor Fayose advocated the need for the Yoruba people particularly the leaders to be more committed and patriotic to the course of their race for the Yoruba nation to regain its lost glory.
Speaking, the Chairman of the Yoruba Summit Planning Committee, Dr Kunle Olajide while welcoming Yoruba leaders as well as the Igbo and South South leaders declared that ” Nigeria is yet to realize its potentials despite the various economic and human resources it has.”
Dr Olajide pointed out that the only way Nigeria as a country ” can move forward is for it to go back to the days on regional government when regions were allowed to develop on their own phase.”.
