President Muhammadu Buhari has declared that technology and character will determine the future of Nigeria
The president stated this in Ibadan the Oyo state capital at the 67th foundation ceremonies and award of doctoral degrees of the University of Ibadan.
He said as a result of this, there is the urgent need for intellectual elites in the nation’s universities to fashion out counter-terrorism narratives that must be persuasive for Nigeria.
Represented by the Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, the President said this was to counter the narratives of those falsely claiming that God is interested in killing innocent lives.
Specifically, President Buhari challenged the intellectual elites to come up with economic model which will engender inclusive growth and check fast growing unemployment and dwindling GDP.
Predicting better days for Nigeria, President Buhari pointed out that character of Nigerians was very important in reformation of the country, a deficit of which would negatively affect whatever idea one may have, adding that the major challenge confronting Nigeria included “infant mortality, extreme poverty, insecurity, climate change, the rabid activities of terrorists”, all which he said are monsters which cannot be allowed to prowl the street without being controlled.
“Our budget will focus on technology, power, transportation, access to solar power, promotion of entrepreneurship, small scale businesses. The future of Nigeria is bright. Our nation will yield its fruits for her people, make us live decent. By the grace of God, we will succeed. Government of the Federation is committed to responsive governance focusing on the ordinary man who daily looks for job. But how many jobs can be generated” he said.
President Muhammadu Buhari added that his administration is committed to shaping the future of the country through a three-prong approach of creativity, technology and character.
