Sustain fight against cattle rustling–ACF tells Northern Govs
By; Mohammad Ibrahim, Kaduna
Arewa Consultative Forum has said the  Security Joint Task Force formed by the state governments of Kaduna, Zamfara, Kebbi, Kano, Katsina, Sokoto, Jigawa and Niger to tackle the issue of cattle rustlers and other heinous crimes must be sustained.
According to the northern socio-political group, the joint operations in forests bordering the states have started yielding results with the recovery of many stolen cattle and the arrest of suspected cattle rustlers.
This was contained in a statement signed by ACF Publicity Secretary, Mohammed Ibrahim and made available to journalists in the state.
“ACF is happy with this development as it had consistently advocated for this Joint Task Force to tackle the menace of these cattle thieves who not only steal but in most cases kill the herders.
“ACF appeals to the concerned states to sustain the operation of the Security Joint Task Force by regular funding”, the statement said.
ACF also reaffirmed its commitment to the unity and peaceful coexistence of all Nigerians irrespective of their cultural, religious and other persuasions in order to consolidate the country’s political, social and economic development.
The group however said it was saddened by the recent suicide bomb attacks on innocent Muslim faithfuls during their evening and morning prayers in Maiduguri, Borno and Yola, Adamawa states respectively, where about 75 people were killed and many injured.
“This wicked attack on soft targets using innocent female suicide bombers by the Boko Haram terrorists is most unfortunate and worrisome” it stressed.
However, ACF said it is pleased with the stakeholders meeting embarked upon by the Borno State Government where religious and traditional leaders including security agencies partner to discuss community policing that will make the people be more vigilant and security conscious.
END.
