Stop intimidating our members with DSS – ASUP tells Provost

Workers of the College of Agriculture, More Plantation, Ibadan, under the aegis of Academic Staff Union of Polytechnic (ASUP), have raised alarm over alleged invasion of the College by men of the Department of State Security (DSS) on the invitation of the Provost, Dr. Babajide Adelekan, .
Addressing journalists, ASUP Chairman, Comrade Olufemi Jokanola, alleged that the Provost asked them to steer clear of being membership of the union which they believed share common objectives with all Colleges of Agriculture across the country.
Jokanola stressed that the refusal of the workers to bow to the dictate of the Provost, led to their continued intimidation through issuance of queries to the leadership of the union.
Emphasizing that the workers are not ready to bow to the intimidation and that ASUP has come to stay in the college, the Chairman stated that three queries were issued in a day to him and the Secretary of the union, Comrade Eyitayo Oluade, for issuing a communiqué at the end of the congress of the union.
He advised the Provost to stop intimidating ASUP members, assuring that the refusal of the management not to allow Comrade Oluade take the promotional examination because of the queries issued to him will not cow them to submission or stop their been members of ASUP.
“We are members of ASUP. It has come to stay in this College and nothing more. All we agree at the ASUP congress cannot be compromised by us and our refusal to be part of the college part time programme cannot be reversed. It is our belief that the Provost will see reason with us and allow peace to reign in the college.”
The College Provost could not be reached for comment as he was said to be supervising the workers’ promotional examination alongside the delegation from Abuja. But his Secretary, Mrs. Kemi Babalola, said the Provost will be available early next week, to speak.
