A 64-year old man, Patrick Kalu of Railway Quarters, Minna is standing trial before the Magistrate Court III in Minna on charges bordering on sodomy with a 15 year old boy.
The court presided over by Magistrate Hassan Mohammed was told by the Police persecution officer that the accused was arrested following tip off that the man was having illicit affairs with the minor.
The accused had brought the 15 year old boy from Karimo area of Abuja with the intention to secure a job for the minor but had since subjected the boy into his sex partner.
The First Information Report from the Police said the offence contravenes section 284 of the state penal code laws.
When the charges were read to the accused by the presiding Magistrate Hassan Mohammed, he admitted guilt.
The presiding Magistrate however remanded the accused in prison custody till the 26th of January, next year to allow for the completion of investigations by the Police and for further mention.
Cases of sodomy particularly by elderly men with young boys have been on the rise in parts of the state even as religious leaders have been speaking against the unnatural acts but to no avail.
At the State Police Command on Monday, four of the over dozen suspects paraded as criminals arrested over the weekend for various offences were men arrested for unnatural acts with minors.
The men according to the Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, Supritendent of Police Abigail Oneize would soon be arraigned in court.
Reported cases of rape of minors including toddlers and cases of sodomy according to recent findings by our correspondent could run well into over a thousand even as the trend is provoking condemnations as reports indicates a diabolic and ritual dimensions to the development.
