Smuggling, Economic Sabotage Against Nigeria – Customs

Seized Containers of Vegetable Oil by Customs at Tin Can Port.


Smuggling has been described as a crime and economic sabotage against
the Nigerian state.

Mr. Francis Adetoye, the Area Controller in charge of Adamawa and
Taraba Command who made the disclosure at a press briefing in Yola,
urged people to desist from smuggling as it is not trade.

Adetoye disclosed that from January to November 2017 a total of 43
seizures were recorded in the command which include, 323 bags of duty
paid Value DPV foreign rice, tokumbo vehicles used in conveying the
foreign rice, 17 motorcycles used for foreign rice smuggling.

He also said 55 pieces of elephant Tusks were also seized.

Adetoye said that the success was recorded following a joint anti
smuggling and drugs patrol in collaboration with sister agencies in
the state.

” On November 20, 2017  the command anti smuggling teams  successfully
seized 55 huge size of elephant tusks along smuggling into Nigeria
from a neighboring country.” Adetoye said.

The Controller stated further that two trucks loaded with second hand
tires were also seized, adding t hat the tires were meant to cause
accidents and deaths during the Christmas period as they were
substandard and dangerous to motorists.
