Senator Wakili Collaborates With NTI To Train 100 Teachers

Senator Ali Wakili, representing Bauchi South, has partnered with the National Teachers Institute (NTI) for the training of 100 teachers from his constituency under the theme, “Teacher, A Catalyst For Change & Sustainable Development”.
The one-day training took place at the Professor Iya Abubakar Community
Resource Centre in Bauchi is part of a constituency project on human capacity development‎ embarked upon by the senator in his constituency.
Director General of NTI, Professor Garba Dahuwa Azare, in a remark emphasized the importance of teachers training, saying, teachers are the bedrock and heart of national development.
Professor Azare who was represented by the NTI acting Registrar, Mallam Muhammad Usman said that teachers’ education and welfare are the factors
which motivate them to put in their best, hence they should be exposed to new skills‎, knowledge and attitudes.
“It is on this note that I will like to encourage other senators to key
into the capacity-building workshop for teachers in their respective zones.
This will help raise their popularity rating in their constituencies as well as bolster the image of participating teachers”, Azare said.
According to him, state governments and other stakeholders should also emulate the good example of the distinguished senator, by sponsoring workshops and refresher courses for their teachers.
While declaring the workshop opened, Senator Ali Wakili said that the training is part of the fulfilment of his campaign promises to the people of his constituency.
Wakili recalled that the promise he made was to provide a good representation for the people and undertake their human capital development in various sectors so that they can enjoy the dividends of democracy.
He told the teachers that they have a responsibility to monitor the activities of the children placed under their care and protect them from current ills pervading their young minds through technology.
The senator also lamented that despite the contributions of teachers to national development, they are the most neglected as their salaries are always held for months while their entire welfare is nothing to write home about.
Senator Ali Wakili urged the teachers to utilize the opportunity and develop their capacities and impact positively on the lives of their students.
Also speaking, Chairman Bauchi State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Professor Ibrahim Yahaya Yero, noted that the training will avail the trainees with a focus on the teaching profession, as well as an avenue to widen their scope.
Yero, who was represented by the Director School Services, Alhaji Baba Barau said that the training of teachers will help overcome the current challenges in a constantly teaching and learning environment.
He urge the teachers to try and step down what they will learn during the training, saying that SUBEB is determined to ensure the provision of quality teachers for effective delivery of knowledge.
The chairman explained that the introduction of new teaching and learning
method has necessitated the continued training and building the capacities
of teachers to cope with the trend.
In a goodwill message, the chairman Bauchi State House Assembly committee
on education, Aminu Tukur said that having seen what is happening, he felt happy that senator Ali Wakili has delved into an area that needs constant attention.
Tukur noted that failure to appreciate the ‎contributions of teachers to nation building has done a lot of damages to  the country, adding that most of the ills bedeviling the country was a backlash of the neglect of
teachers at all levels.
On his part, the leading resource person for the training, Professor Mansur Malumfashi commended senator Wakili for his foresight to train teachers in order to facilitate quality teaching.
He expressed his appreciation for the opportunity given to him and the other resource persons that they will do their best to impart on the participants.
He said that they have identified five modules which will be explored from the perspective of the teaching profession.
