Four armed men Wednesday attacked a Zenith Bank customer in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State and carted away undisclosed amount of money he withdrew from the Bank
The customer whose true identity was not known as at press time was said to have withdrawn large sum of money from his account in the Bank and was about driving home when the hoodlums ambushed him few metres from the bank premises.
The incident happened at about 3pm on Wednesday when the robbers driving in Toyota ash colour car
An Eye witness said the armed robbers who used an ash colour Toyota Avalon car may have waited for the men as they suddenly pulled-off in front of the man’s car and shot his car from the rear side as well front tyre making the man to lose control of the car and skidded into the gutter where they (robbers) came down and dispossessed him his money.
“I was just inside my shop when I heard a gunshot in front of the bank, we all ran to see what was happening. “They shot the front of the man’s tyre and the car dragged from a distance to the ditch then the four armed men came from their car and ordered him to open his boat if he does not want to die and so he obeyed”.
“I did not immediately know what happened until I saw the robbers packing money from the man’s car into into their own car, two of them wore masks”,
When our correspondent visited the scene few minutes after the police had cordoned off the place and tried to remove the customer’s car from the gutter to their station.
When asked, the police public relation officer (PPRO, Chukwu Ikechukwu, has confirmed the robbery incident.
“The DPO has just briefed me about the incident, what we did was to put all the patrol team to cordon off all the roads in Uyo , that is what the patrol team are doing right now. Nobody for now has been arrested.
“The police actually had a gun battle with the armed robbers, we are still trailing them and we will get them,” he assured.
