The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has called on the Kaduna State Government to erect barricade on railway corridor at Kaduna Central Market to minimise loss of lives and damage to property.
In a statement signed by the District Public Relations Officer, Mrs Grace Adegbite, and made available to newsmen in Zaria, Prince Aderemi Isma’il-Adebiyi, the new NRC District Manager (North), made the plea when he led the corporation’s management team on a courtesy visit to Gov. Nasiru El-Rufa’i in Kaduna.
He said, “We solicit for partnership and support from the Kaduna state government to erect barricade on railway corridor along the central market in Kaduna.
According to him this is to forestall externalities, minimise loss of lives and stop damage of railway properties.
“We seek support for an enhanced patronage of the newly flagged-off Abuja-Kaduna passengers train service and the re-introduction of Kaduna Mass Transit Service from Rigachukun-Tsawin Kura, 10 trips daily.
“NRC management also seeks government’s assistance toward increasing the frequency of Zaria-Kaura Namoda intercity Mass Transit Train Service, which runs one return trip weekly,” he said.
Isma’il-Adebiyi also appealed for the continuation of physical work on the expansion of the road connecting Rigasa Railway Station to facilitate free flow of traffic.
Responding, El-Rufa’i assured the District Manager and his team that work on the road connecting Rigasa would soon continue after payment of compensation to those whose houses were affected.
The governor called for the adjustment of the train time-table from Abuja-Kaduna; Kaduna-Abuja to create room for workers to live in Kaduna while they still work in Abuja.
