Police nabbed six member kidnap gang in Oyo – IGP

The Inspector General of Police, Mr. Solomon Arase, has hinted that six members of a kidnap gang operating in Oyo State are now in the custody of the Police Command in the state.
Mr Araze who dropped this hint in Ibadan when he led senior police officers from Zone 11 on a courtesy visit to the Governor, Senator Abiola Ajimobi in his office said the suspects would soon be arraigned in court.
According to the IG, the Nigeria Police is presently working round the clock towards ensuring provision of adequate security and maintenance of peace throughout the country.
“I’m delighted to inform the governor that six members of a gang of kidnappers who had been terrorising the people of the state have been arrested and will soon be prosecuted. We will not spare any effort towards the provision of adequate security and maintenance of peace in the length and breadth of Oyo State” he said.
While commending Governor Ajimobi for the provision of logistic support to the state Police Command, the IG assured the governor and the people of the state that the Police would continue to maintain and sustain the prevailing peace and security in the state.
Speaking further, the IG who emphasized the need for community partnership and internal security management, which he said was crucial to the provision of adequate security of life and property, enjoined Police officers and men of the Force to be human rights compliant, and to respect the sensitivity and cultural value and beliefs of the people.
Welcoming the IG, Governor Ajimobi tasked the Nigeria Police not to rest on its oars, in view of the crime wave across the country, saying, “Policing should be based on friendly interaction and ability to communicate with the people. It should not be an opportunity to exercise undue power over the people.”
The governor pledged the continued support of his administration to the Police to further enhance the performance of its officers and men.
