PLASU Warns Against Cultism As It Holds Matriculation

Plateau State University (PLASU), Bokkos has warned against the menace of cultism, drugs and theft as it matriculated 966 newly admitted students.

 
Prof Doknan Sheni, the University’s Vice Chancellor gave the warning during the matriculation ceremony for its 2016/2017 session held at the university ground in Bokkos.
 
“You should count yourselves lucky to be matriculated today because out of over 10, 000 candidates that applied to this university, 966 of were successful and admitted.
 
“As our students, you are implored to study hard and distinguish yourself especially by shunning all social and negative vices, such as exam malpractice, cultism, hard drugs, drunkenness, rape, and other misconducts that might earn you expulsion, ’’ he warned.
 
He said the university’s motto: knowledge, Diligence and Integrity has a culture of sticking to its principles and norms which are in confomity with global best practices and the drive for the achievement of standards among the committee of Nigerian Universities.
 
 
The VC said: “You must therefore as a matter of fact choose to conduct yourselves responsibly to justify the confidence reposed in you by the admission offered to you.’’
 
Doknan said the the university would teach them (students) about ethics and good conduct beside the education to qualify and be worthy in character and learning.
 
He said that the management was committed and dogged in bequeathing a legacy of a functional, effective and efficient university system that will be a match to highly rated Universities in Europe and the rest of the World.
 
The vice chancellor further disclosed that the first convocation of the university earned it 95 percent score from former NUC Executive Secretary simply because of how it was held stating that was a sign that “we are moving higher.’’
He called on local government councils, wealthy individuals and philanthropists to take the opportunity to invest in the university by building hostels, hotels or motels that could enable them generate revenue.
 
“Beside our students and staff who are staying outside the university campus, our guests during functions can stay in such hotels and motels.
 
“I am ready to give land to any developer especially the LGAs to build their hostels that will be named after the councils and which will continue to generate funds for them year after year, ’’ he assured.
