International Center for Interfaith, Peace and Harmony (,ICIPH), has observed that it is only through understanding among the various ethnic groups in Nigeria that peace can be achieved.
Rev. Dr. Yusuf I. Wushishi, Co-Secretary of ICIPH while speaking at the interfaith Stakeholders Consultative Forum for JNI/CCN leaders in Kaduna, said, “As Nigerians, we are to make peace, maintain peace, any support coming from outside will only ensure support not permanent peace in the country.
“Let us understand ourselves as Nigerians to ensure peaceful coexistence among ourselves. That is why Christian Council of Nigeria, CCN and Jama’atu Nasril Islam, JNI, are working together to ensure peace through understanding.”
He explained that the coming together to form interfaith was for better understanding among the two major religions with a view of working together for the overall peace, unity and development of the country.
Wushishi said CCN was formed in 1929 by Church leaders that protested against the non teaching of Christian religion knowledge in schools, stressing that after their success, the leaders came together to form the Christian Council of Nigeria.
Dr. Khalid Abubakar Aliyu, Co-Secretary of ICIPH said the Jama’atu Nasril Islam, had worked towards the promotion of peace in the country, ensure youth behave well in the society and discourage hate speech among members.
He noted that JUNI had visited Borno, Yobe and other States particularly to distribute relief materials Internally Displaced Persons.
Khalid explained that the need for peaceful coexistence amongst Christians and Muslims was all that the center was working towards its realization.
Various speakers made contributions on the way forward for understanding amongst members of Christians and Muslims in the country.
