Peace Building: Kachia Sports Forum Appeals To el-Rufai, Others For Support

An appeal has been made for the Governor of Kaduna State, Malam Nasir el-Rufai and other key stakeholders to rally round and throw in support for the Kachia Peace and Unity Sports Promoters Forum (KAPUSPROF) in ensuring that its maiden competition billed for kick off on April 1 is successful.
Chairman of the organizing committee, Joshua Kinger Ayuba made the appeal during a press briefing ahead of the kick off held at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium, Kaduna on Tuesday.
He explained that the Kaduna State Governor, who has done much in ensuring security in the state would be further consolidating on his success by contributing to the competition.
He said that they would be requiring over N3m for a hitch-free hosting of the competition, with prizes alone gulping over N1.5m.
“The competition is an initiative of the former Commandant, Navy School of Armament Technology Kachia, Rear Admiral Timothy T. Dakwat who was of the view that such a competition for Kachia and its environs would go a long way in consolidating on the peaceful coexistence being enjoyed in the area,” he said.
Ayuba explained that they plan to make it an annual event featuring several sporting events, but would kick start with football as a pilot scheme.
Also speaking at the briefing, Lieutenant Livinus Luka who is the coordinator of the peace forum said that the forum is all out at preaching peaceful coexistence in Southern Kaduna as a whole and Kachia in particular.
“It is our believe that we would continue to have other editions annually after this first one. We hope and pray that support would come from individuals towards this noble project, not just from the state government,” he said.
In his remarks, the Secretary, Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association, Kachia Local Government Area, Wakili Katuka said that the competition was a welcome development, adding that there can be no meaningful development without peace.
The competition was initiated by the Nigeria Navy School of Armament Technology and the Nigeria Army School of Artillery, both in Kachia.
Since the letters started going out in August last year, it has received sponsorship considerations from Kinger Oils, Kyus Hotels, FCMB, First Bank, McRoyal Hospital, PJ Resort Hotels Ltd.
Also expected to contribute to the competition are; Senator Danjumah Laah, Deputy Speaker Kaduna House of Assembly, Honourable John Audu Kwaturu, Commissioner of Commerce and Industry Kaduna State, Dr. Manzo Maigari, Air Vice Marshal Mohammed Rabiu of the Military Pension Board, S.A. Economic Matters to Kaduna State Governor, Honourable Murtala Dabo, Kaduna State PDP Chairman, Honourable Hassan Hyet, Honourable Jagaba Adams and Director Finance, Ministry of Health Abuja, Mr. Anthony Hassan.
The competition which was originally billed to feature 16 teams was expanded to accommodate 20due to growing interests from teams.
The final is expected to be played on May 6, 2017.
