As the world celebrate yet another International Women’s Day, women in Adamawa and Nigeria as a whole have been called upon to be agents of change in promoting peace.

Speaking on the theme of this year’s celebration, “Be Bold For Change” Tola  maintained that women should rise up and  take action in the fight to end all forms of discrimination against them such as early/ force marriage, gender based violence, inequality and a host of others.
Mr. Titus Orngu of UN WOMEN in his goodwill message, challenged government, traditional and religious leaders to be bold to include women in decision making and provide equal opportunity for women.
He called for equal opportunity for women to show case their potentials and policies that will favour women.
Mrs Victoria Yohanna of UNHCR , said protecting women is very necessary as women are the agents of change.
She however maintained that women should  be bold to challenge inequality in workplaces, discrimination  and violence against women.
Girl education according to her does not only bring the immediate benefit, it is seen to be the best investment in a nation’s development.
“Girls are one of the most powerful forces for change in the world; when their rights are recognized, their needs are met, and their voice are heard, they drive positive change in their families, communities, nation and the world.
Our Society she says must be free from all sorts of gender
discrimination and inequality.
International  Women’s  Day  is a global day set aside in celebrating the socio-Economic, Cultural and political achievements of women. It also marks a call to action for accelerating gender parity.
The day is celebrated on 8th  of March every year. It was first observed as a popular  event after the United  National Assembly invited member state  to proclaim March 8th as the UN day for women’s fight and world peace.
