The Oyo State Council of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) on Saturday advised the 36 states governments in the country not to divert the Paris Club Fund released to them by the Federal Government.

The union gave the advice in a communique issued at the end of its monthly congress held at the press centre, Iyaganku Ibadan jointly signed by its Chairman, Comrade Adewumi Faniran and Secretary, Comrade Bola Ogunlayi
Oyo NUJ in the communique declared that Paris Club Fund should not to any other use than for the payment of workers salary areas and pension for which it was allocated.
The union also reiterated its call to the private and state governments media organisation owners “to pay the areas of salary and other emoluments owed Journalists across the country promptly”.
While commending the Oyo State Police Command and the new Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr. Abiodun Odude “for the professional way he handled a recent face-off between some of his officers and Oyo State NUJ Chairman, Comrade Adewumi Faniran, the Union tasked CP Odude “to impress it on his men and officers to always accord Journalists and Journalism profession due regards as at when due”.
On the increase in the spate of “suicide in the country due to the current economy recession”, Oyo NUJ called on the President Muhammadu Buhari led administration “to quickly put in place measures that will improve citizen welfare”.
Condemning “the notorious activities of herdsmen in some parts of the country, e.g. Oke-Ogun area of Oyo State” the union urged security operatives in Nigeria “to be alive to their responsibility by curbing their nefarious activities”.
Emphasizing the need for peaceful co-existence among Nigerians, Oyo NUJ condemned the recent bloody clash between the Hausa and Yoruba people in the ancient city of Ile-Ife resulting in loss of lives and destruction of property.
