Special Adviser on Rural Development and Cooperatives, Dr. Adzer Abya, on Tuesday disclosed that the Ortom administration has spent over N2 billion on rural projects across the state.
According to a statement by his aide, Tahav Agezua, he made the disclosure after inspecting some of the projects in Gwer and Apa local government areas.
They included rural roads, culverts and bridges as well as electrification.
The adviser stated that N1.8 billion came from the N10 billion infrastructure facility provided by the federal government while the rest came from the statutory allocations in accordance with budgetary provisions.
But he lamented the inability of contractors to keep pace with the zeal of the administration to deliver on jobs with dispatch and appealed to them to accelerate their pace of work.
Projects inspected included ongoing construction on Mase-Paka feeder road with a bridge on Nchila stream at Shanna, Howe-Kinga-Shawa with several culverts and a major bridge across Ulobo stream at Tse-Gabu, and three span bridge across Gbaya stream near Taraku.
Electrification projects included Uturugh, Ageba and Shawa villages near Taraku, and Jato-Daula in Gwer as well as Upaha in Apa local government area where the construction of a rural road is also ongoing.
The Upaha and Jato-Daula electrification projects have been completed and energized.
The Mase-Paka road traverses nine communities of Agabee, Tswarikyegh, Shanna, Tse-Nyibiam, Tse-Unombor, Tse-Gbenshi, Hundu, Paka and Tse-Aku.
A beneficiary of the road project, Mr. Aniwange Iorhaa, commended government for bringing the project to the community saying it will alleviate the transportation challenges of the community.
At the Uturugh electrification project which covers Jiwunde and other communities, a spokesman, Moses Akura, stated that they will remain eternally grateful for the project saying when completed it would boost commercial and other activities in the area.
At Upaha, a retired Warrant Officer, Mr. Christopher Ela, said with the completion of the electrification project in the area residents can now watch television and enjoy music in addition to cold drinks.
“Ortom has done a wonder hitherto unprecedented in the community,” he said.
