The Controller of Oyo and Osun Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) Mr Temitope Ogunkua has hinted that there will be aggressive anti smuggling operation to seize as well as prosecute owners of such smuggled vehicles after the Wednesday 12 April, 2017 deadline.
Mr Ogunkua dropped this hint in Ibadan on Monday while speaking with newsmen shortly after a sent forth Christian fellowship service for the command’s outgoing Public Relations Officer (PRO), Nwala Nkiru and the assistant PRO, Mr Lomba Benjamin at the Command Headquarters, in Ibadan.
The NCS Controller asked motor dealers and private owners of ‘such smuggled vehicles’ to visit the nearest Customs Zonal office to pay the appropriate Customs Duty on them.
He pointed out that “for now,we have not really see anybody coming to pay vehicle duty as directed by the Customs boss”, who gave a month grace for end vehicle users to visit Zonal Customs offices for duty payment”.
“Only few people have been making phone calls to ask about the modalities for the new policy. We are still waiting for directive from the headquarters . But like the Comptroller said, we are supposed to start from today ( yesterday) and do it for one month .
We have not really see anybody coming but people have been calling us on phones to ask questions on the modalities but we are ready to comply with the directive without delay,” he said.
Speaking on the two re deployed officers, Mr Ogunkua advised them to remain committed “to excellence and hardwork, saying,” anywhere you are going take charge and let people talk good of you “.
In her remark, the outgoing PRO, Nwala Nkiru expressed gratitude to the management of the NCS for the opportunity to serve, while promising to improve in her new assignment.
