The National Directorate of Employment (NDE) in Nasarawa State said it would train 50 women on how to make spices (curry powder, and fish flavour) to enable them become self reliant.

The NDE State Coordonator Alhaji Dauda Idris-Wase said this in an interview with newsmen in Lafia.

According to him, spices are the ingredients used to improve the taste of food, especially soup, such as curry powder, thyme and fish flavour.

He said that the training was billed to commence on March 20 in Lafia, would last for five days.

“NDE has the responsibilities of training people, especially the youth and women in different skills acquisition, to be self reliant and contribute their quota to national development.

“There is high rate of unemployment in which the situation has degenerated to anti-social activities such as violent crimes, insecurity, armed robbery, drug and human trafficking,” he said.

Idris-Wase said it would be better to teach people how to fish than to give them fish.

He urged Nigerians not to always wait for white collar jobs but to embrace skills acquisition for the overall development of the country.

Idris-Wase called for collective efforts and partnership with the agency, to provide job opportunity for all categories of unemployed persons, reduce poverty and generate wealth in the country.

The state coordinator restated the directorate’s commitment to initiate more people-oriented programmes to tackle youth unemployment, restiveness and poverty in the state and the country at large.
