Team Kaduna had a brilliant outing in the tennis event at the ongoing second edition of the National Youth Games (NYG) at the University of Ilorin.
Kaduna’s Gabriel Friday won male gold medal after beating Abubakar Saminu from FCT by two straight sets.
In the female category, Favour Moses claimed the silver medal after losing narrowly to Rebecca Peter of Akwa Ibom State.
The Kaduna State first golden boy from the National Youth Games, Gabriel Friday said his next target is to repeat the same feat in Dala Hard Court championships.
The African junior tennis championships runner-up explained that his life time dream is for the Kaduna State Governor to acknowledge his efforts and the glory he intends to bring to the state.
The former national under twelve champion lamented that if not for logics, he would have been in the lawn tennis driving seat.
“My ambition is to be among the best 20 in country”
He then added, “For now I need tennis rackets and canvass to help me train well so that i can meet up with my ambition “.
Friday said that his opponent in final, Abubakar Saminu has been a long time foe in several finals and the last final between them in Lagos, saw Abubakar win.
As a mark of solidarity, the male silver medalist said, Gabriel serves well, while attributing his loss to the bad courts.
