Mrs Anyawu-Akeredolu Calls For Women-Inclusive Governance

Wife of Ondo State Governor, Mrs Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu has said there is need for gender equality in the social and political realms in the country, just as she called for 35 per cent women inclusiveness in governance in Ondo State.
Mrs Anyanwu-Akeredolu stated this during the celebration of the 2017 international women’s day in Akure.
She described the day is as a call for change and celebration of acts of courage and determination by women who have played extra ordinary roles in the history and activities of our society.
She said records have shown that several women distinguished themselves in their careers and led the path, broken the gender barrier placed by the society. Anyanwu-Akeredolu appealed to women to embrace girl child education, re-invent modest in the girl child in order to build a decent and more vibrant society, noting that the Nigeria society still have a long way to go in achieving gender equality and empowering women.
The Wife of the Governor said achieving gender equality in the work place will ensure sustainable development, stating that there is need to urgently address the low representation of women in positions of authority and decision making.
She therefore encouraged girls to make education a priority in order to take charge and have women representation in several agenda. She insisted that ones a woman is empowered her home is empowered and that in turn creates an amiable and functioning home, which impacts on the society positively.
Arabirin Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu therefore encouraged women to be bold, inspired and demand change in work place by being determined, passionate and deviating away from some harmful cultural norms that destabilize the future of the girl child.
Earlier, the Governor, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, who addressed the women at the Governor’s Office, assured them that their rights will not be neglected in the state, stressing that the power to improve the society lies with the women and therefore urged them to embrace good attitudinal orientation by rededicating themselves to a better society.
He described women as full of knowledge, test and exemplary character that makes a decent society and thus appealed to them to impact changes in the society in order to achieve sustainable development.
Speaking at the event, the Chairman of the 2017 International women’s Day celebration in Ondo State and a former Commissioner, Lady Yemi Mahmund, said women must be steadfast, bold in their activities in order to make their impact felt in the society, while the Iyaloja of NEPA Market, Chief (Mrs) Kemi Aishida, assured that the market women will support the present administration in the state.
Similarly, the former Head of Service in Ondo State, Chief (Mrs) Kosemani Kolawole,, explained that boldness does not mean rudeness or overzealousness on the part of the women, maintaining that such acts are unethical and must be discouraged among the female fold. She urged women to do things that are right and exemplary in the society.
