Motivation Of Nurses, Midwives Key To Maternal, Infant Mortality Reduction – Adewale

Adequate and well motivated Nursing and Midwifery human resources has been identified has one of the critical elements require for reduction of maternal and infant mortality as well as promotion of access to health care in all tiers of health care delivery sector.

The Minister of Health, Professor Isaac Adewale said this at the 14th Biennial Nursing leadership Conference with the theme; ‘Consolidating on the gains of Nursing and Midwifery educative forum in Kaduna.
According to him, the present administration of President Muhammadu Buhari is committed to providing qualitative healthcare delivery service system aimed at improving the well being of Nigerians.
The Minister of Health who was represented by the Director Federal Ministry of Health Dr. Bamalli Wanpan noted that the Nursing leaders have a lot to contribute towards the growth and development of the profession education and practice in both the private and public hospitals in the country as  the federal government is investing heavily on health care most especially on primary health care to meet up with the present challenges been face in area of health care delivery in the country.
He noted that the main aim of the conference was to bring Nursing leaders in Nigeria together to discuss current issues and developments nationally and internationally that has implications for education and practice, health needs and health care delivery in the country in order to articulate the way forward towards confronting and resolving these challenges.
According to him, President Muhammadu Buhari has made healthcare delivery one of his cardinal objectives as Nigeria needs to be healthy in order to contribute to the economic growth of the country.
Also speaking, the Commissioner of Health and Human Services, Kaduna State Dr. Paul Manya Dogo said the state government has commenced reforms of over 150 primary healthcare centers in the state.
He added that the state government is also focusing on reducing the child mortality rate by improving on the existing healthcare facilities.
According to him, the training and retraining of Nurses and midwifery is key in the agenda of the state government.
Earlier in her keynote address, the former registrar, of Nurses and Midwifery, Mrs Olanipekun said that the professionals who are competent should also be part of the key players on the issue of reform as that is the need of reforming the health sector for service delivery.
She however advocated that only schools with facilities should be accredited.
