The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Kaduna State Council has called on the  Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), the Ministry of Petroleum Resources, the National Assembly  and the general public to intervene and call the  Kaduna Petrochemical Refinery Company (KRPC) to order in getting its media dealings in Kaduna right.

The call was made in a statement signed by Secretary of the Council, Dauda Idris Doka, made available to newsmen in Kaduna on Thursday.

The council frowned at the KRPC over its continuous relationship with the impeached Chairman, Kaduna State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Mallam Garba Mohammad.

“It could be recalled that Garba Muhammad, was formally sacked from his position as the Chairman of  Kaduna State Council of NUJ after a Congress voted for his impeachment  over gross misconduct .  His sack on the 9th of September, 2016 was formally ratified by the National Headquarters of the NUJ.

“On February, 14th 2017, congress further reaffirmed the suspension of Garba Muhammad indefinitely from the membership of the NUJ, for his continuous bellicose stance against the Union and flagrant violation of the NUJ constitution among other issues that are not necessary for public consumption,” it pointed out.

Kaduna NUJ said that these developments were well publicised in the print, electronic and online media across the country.

“The NUJ further wrote Kaduna State government, its MDAs, security agencies and Federal establishments operating in the state, including the KRPC on the development,  declaring  Garba Muhammad as no longer in position to represent the NUJ  in any capacity or acting on its behalf.

“While, the exco and its new Chairman have made courtesy calls on  government establishments to  explain further  the development, the KRPC refused to such gestures as evident through our correspondence with its Public Affairs Department which has continued to romance with the impeached Chairman,” it emphasized.

The statement added that KRPC has continued to engage the impeached Chairman of  the  union as  its official link to all journalists   to cover its events or carry out sundry assignments in the establishment.

“At the moment, no journalist is allowed into the KRPC without the approval of the impeached Chairman who seems to have been placed to act as a gate keeper between the media and Company,” it lamented.

NUJ Kaduna revealed that the KRPC has been engaging in an annual contentious, controversial and divisive multi-million  Naira ‘Energy Correspondents Workshop’ since 2014, knowing fully that there are no Energy Correspondents domicile in Kaduna State but a creation of the impeached chairman.

“We believe that the KRPC is not acting in the best interest of the public , owners of the refinery by engaging   a private hand to vet, and approve for the company, bonafide, accredited members of the NUJ to carry out their constitutional roles in reporting the KRPC. More so that such a person has tainted integrity.

“We wish to conclude by calling on the relevant government bodies to call the management of KRPC to order and open the KRPC for our members to carry out their assignments,” it submitted.
