Kawu wins Soba LG poll

The Kaduna State Independent Electoral Commission (SIECOM) has declared Alhaji Kawu Ibrahim-Yakasai of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as the winner of Saturday’s council poll in Soba local government.
Declaring the result at Maigana, headquarters of the local government on Sunday, the Returning Officer, Malam Aliyu Haruna said only two parties contested for the chairmanship position.
He said that Alhaji Kawu IbrahimYakasai of PDP polled 62, 170 votes to defeat Alhaji Hassan Abdullahi of CPC who got 20, 143 votes adding that about eight parties polled varying votes despite the fact that there were no candidates fielded by those parties.
The Retuning Officer said, “having scored the highest number of votes and satisfied the requirement of the law, Kawu Ibrahim-Yakasai is here by returned elected chairman, Soba local government.”
Haruna added that of the ten wards of the local government, the PDP got eight councillors while the CPC got one councillor but counselorship result from Gimba ward was cancelled.
Speaking to Journalists immediately after announcing the result, the council Interim Management Committee Chairman, Alhaji Rilwanu Shehu said the election was conducted peacefully.
He recalled that there was a little problem related to disappearance of result sheet at he beginning but the problem was later solved and the results were successfully computed.
Shehu appealed to the people of the area especially the youths to remain calm and peaceful to sustain the prevailing peace in the area.
