Katsina Empowers Repentant Cattle Rustlers, Frees 117 Prisoners

The committee on amnesty and dialogue between Fulani and cattle rustlers set up by the Katsina State Government on Fulani Cattle rustling has handed over 85 motorcycles to repented cattle rustlers, while the 117 other Fulanis in prison custody will soon be released.
The Chairman of the Committee who is the Secretary to the Government, Alhaji Mustapha Muhammad Inuwa announced that eighty five motorcycles were received from the security agencies for handing over to the owners and modalities have been put in place to improve the well being of the repented Fulani Cattle Rustlers.
He said a sub-committee was already inaugurated to hand over the motorcycles to the repentant. The sub-committee consists of Head of Danmusa Local Administration as Chairman, Divisional Police Officer, two District Heads, State Security Service, representatives of Miyetti Allah and Vigilante group among others.
Alhaji Mustapha Muhammadu Inuwa explained that the state government had planned to provide fifty motorcycles to the committee to ensure stability in the area.
The State Commissioner of Police Alhaji Usman Ali Abdullahi on behalf of other security agents warned people against taking laws into their hands and advised the repented cattle rustlers to summit their arms before the end of April.
Alhaji Usman Abdullahi warned that any body found with arms after the stated time would be dealt with accordingly.
The representative of the Emirs of Katsina and Daura, Alhaji Lawal Idris Bagiwa Sarkin Fulani Hamceta commended Katsina State Government and security agents for restoring peace and stability in the state.
He assured of traditional rulers support towards protecting lives and property and urged Fulani herdsmen as well as the repentant cattle rustlers to cooperate and unite to sustain the existing peace in Danmusa and its environs.
The State Chairman of Miyetti Allah Association, Alhaji Mannir Atiku Lamido acknowledged efforts of the government and traditional rulers in restoring peace and stability in the area.
He noted that normalcy had came to stay following the dialogue reached between Fulani herdsmen and cattle rustlers, assuring of maximum support of government towards sustaining peace for socio-economic development of the local government area.
Earlier, in an address of welcome, the Head of Danmusa Local Administration, Alhaji Sade Abdu Zango praised the foresight of the reconciliation committee for handing over the motorcycles, saying that the effort marked a step forward in sustaining peace in the area.
In their separate remarks, Malam Baba Umar Rocket and Alhaji Bello Harmo assured to remain law abiding citizens.
They appeal to the repentant cattle rustlers to co-operate with the committee in the handing over of the motorcycles to achieve the desired goals.
