It is unfair to deny workers their entitlements, hence all efforts would be channelled into ensuring that the Federal Government takes over its responsibility of payment of pensions to retired staff of New Nigerian Newspapers Ltd, who served the country.
Kaduna State Governor, Malam Nasir El-Rufai expressed this on Wednesday in Kaduna when top management staff of NNN visited him at the Sir Kashim Ibrahim Government House, Kaduna.
El-Rufai said that in view of the development, he would be visiting President Muhammadu Buhari to prevail on the Minister of Finance, Mrs Kemi Adeosun to facilitate the payment of N2.1bn pension areas to the workers as approved.
The governor explained that initially, President Buhari had approved the payments up to December 2016, but it had not been implemented by the Ministry of Finance.
Earlier, the Managing Director of NNN, Malam Tukur Abdulrahman explained that the company was facing challenges from the non payment of its retired staff, who served the company when the Federal Government held sway until 2016.
He explained that the law suits filed by the aggrieved retirees was affecting the fortunes of the company and distracting the management from focusing on other areas that can improve its present activities.
The Managing Director thanked Governor El-Rufai for being a good host governor, as well as his purposeful leadership not just in the state, but Northern Nigeria and the entire country.
