IMSG reviews judicial workers salary downward
By; VICTOR DURUAMAKU, Owerri
Imo State Government has set up a committee to review downward the salaries of magistrates and other judicial workers in the state.
The state governor, Rochas Okorocha disclosed this Monday while briefing journalists at Government House, Owerri, saying that the wage bill of the state workforce has become too high for the government to bear.

Governor Okorocha who was giving account of  his last four years in office, also said that Imo is the only state in the country which pays highest minimum wage to workers.
He revealed that Magistrates in the state earn about N500,000 a month. This he said has been a load on the wage bill of the state.
On the controversial concessioning of General Hospitals, the governor explained that what was concessioned was the management of the health institutions and not the institutions. He further said that his administration has not sold any government property and will never sell. Rather, he said the administration had reacquired two of the government’s industries sold by the past administrations.
He said further that, following the stringent economic situation in the country, his administration has started sourcing for loan despite the bailout fund to enable it complete its ongoing projects.
Okorocha who made reference to the ongoing two flyover projects and the upgrade of the Sam Mbakwe International Cargo Airport, explained that the two fly over projects if completed would ease traffic congestion in the state capital and also the airport if upgraded would help boost the state economy through commerce.
According to him he is sourcing for loan to also work on the major roads, pointing out that his dream is to transform the state capital and make the state a one city state.
On the performance of the civil servants, Governor Okorocha said that his administration would reduce the workforce by removing those he regards as “dead woods” and replacing them with more vibrant workers, adding that his plan is to make every worker in the state computer literate.
