Govt can eradicate corruption, poverty & terrorism in Nig. via edu – Sheikh Hashim
By; BAYO AKAMO, Ibadan.
The leader (Naqeeb) of Jama’at Ta’awunil Muslimeen in Oyo State, Sheikh Ibrahim Hashim weekend said Government can make use of education to eradicate corruption, poverty and terrorism in Nigeria.
Sheikh Hashim stated this at the Hijra 1437 celebration and launching of Ta’awunu Comprehensive Nursery and Primary School, Ajibode, Ibadan.
According to him, to achieve this, the Federal Government needs to make education available and accessible to Nigerians from primary to tertiary institution levels. He explained that if Nigerians have access to education, most of the societal vices such as poverty would be eradicated.
Speaking further, the Cleric asked government to make religious studies compulsory in schools as a way of instilling the fear of God in the minds of the students and abstain from bad deeds and actions capable of derailing the peaceful coexistence of Nigerians.
While advocating review of the curriculum of religious subjects, the Cleric pointed out that the teaching of religious studies from primary to tertiary institutions would aid in eradicating corruption, insurgency and terrorism. He urged government to recruit competent Islamic and Christian Religious Studies teachers in schools.
Speaking on this year’s theme; “Contributions of Sahabas towards the Success of Hijrah”, the Cleric urged Muslims to contribute positively to the socio-economic development of the country especially in the area of education.
Chairman Ta’awunu School Management Committee, Ustaz Ismail Abdul Ganiyu solicited for the cooperation and support of wealthy Nigerians for the adequate funding of schools. He said the launch of the school coincided with the Hijra celebration not only towards reshaping the Arabia Peninsula socially and politically but also had its impact on global civilizations.
