Communities ravaged by effects or are under threats of erosion in parts of Niger State may soon receive respite from the federal government.
The Governor of Niger State, Sani Bello said his administration has taken note of the various communities under such threats of ecological devastations and is overwhelmed by the level and spread of the degradation.
He noted that many local government areas in the state were steadily being ravaged by erosion. He hinted that the state government would soon approach the federal government to seek for it’s intervention as the devastation was beyond the capabilities of the state to handle or control the ecological challenges.
Governor Bello who spoke in Bida, at the Palace of the Etsu Nupe, said the problem of the various types of erosion menacing communities in various parts of the state were becoming enormous.
“The issue of erosion is a major challenge which is not limited to Bida Local Government area alone” but is affecting many other communities in parts of the state” he said.
The Governor said the devastation which is wide spread, is common in many council areas across the three senatorial zones of the state. He lamented that the financial implications for control or managing erosion related devastation was beyond the state government.
While assuaging the fears of affected communities, the Governor assured that the state government would take the matter up with the federal government for a possible assistance.
Governor Bello also visited the the Bida township Fire Service Station which was newly constructed. And after inspecting the facility, disclosed that plans were afoot to recruit qualified men to serve as firemen at the new station.
He similarly visited the School of Nursing, Bida, where he assured that efforts were ongoing to ensure that the institution gets full accreditation as middle level training institution for Nurses
The Governor disconstructed the rumour that his administration was planning to relocate the school out of Bida to Kontagora. He described the story making the rounds as vicious rumours and handiwork of enemies and trouble makers.
The Governor thanked the monarch, the Etsu Nupe, Alhaji Yahaya Abubakar for his fatherly status, support and goodwill to his administration.
He assured the traditional ruler that the state government would stop at nothing to do it’s best in bringing governance to all parts of the state and in touching the lives of all citizens in one way or the other as part of the administration’s responsibility to midwife development and spread the dividends of democracy to all.
