Fuel scarcity hits Owerri, residents walk to offices, business areas
 By; VICTOR DURUAMAKU Owerri.

As a result of the scarcity of petrol in Owerri, Imo State capital and environs, residents, including government workers, who cannot afford the high transport fare, now trek to their various offices and business areas.
This ugly situation has paralysed both public and private business activities.
According to a survey by our correspondent, most petrol stations in the metropolis which had petrol, sold the commodity between N130 to N150 per litre while others, for fear of being sealed by the government taskforce on petroleum products, locked up their petrol stations.
Reacting to this development, residents who spoke New Nigerian called on President Muhammadu Buhari to fashion out a way of checking this constant scarcity of petroleum products.
In the opinion of an All Progressive Congress (APC) Chieftain, Chief Goddy N. Obodokwe, those behind the scarcity of petroleum products are saboteurs to the present federal government.
According to him, “such people are ungodly and are happy when their fellow Nigerians suffer economic hardship.”
A market woman, Mrs Grace Igbo, who said she has been badly affected because of the high transport cost, called for urgent action to save poor Nigerians.
However, no official statement or action by the state government to checkmate this ugly trend in the state has been issued.
