Flood: Presidential Committee visits Kaduna, aids victims

THE Presidential Committee on Flood and Rehabilitation has visited Kaduna State and donated relief materials worth millions of naira to flood victims in the state.
Announcing the relief items at Government House Kaduna, Chairman of Group B of the Committee who is also the Director-General of National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) Alhaji Muhammed Sani Sidi said the committee was set up to raise funds for this year’s flood victims.
Sidi remarked that the committee had reached out to relevant organizations nationally and internationally to mobilize resources towards ameliorating the plight of the victims.
He explained that the committee was made up of eminent Nigerians from various works of life and was inaugurated by President Goodluck Jonathan with the overriding mandate to raise funds to complement government’s effort in mitigating the pains and the post-impact-rehabilitation of flood victims.
The NEMA boss said to ensure full realization of its mandate, the committee would require the support especially states and local governments so that all its intervention efforts would get to the flood victims.
He said the group was in Kaduna to deliver relief materials as an initial intervention to the victims.
Responding, Governor Patrick Ibrahim Yakowa applauded the committee and appealed to them to help on the issue of dredging of river Kaduna.
He said his administration was doing everything possible to assist the victim.
Also Speaking, the North West Zonal Co-ordinator of NEMA, Alhaji Musa Ilallah said the agency has donated relief materials worth millions of naira to the victims of the flood in the state.
The relief items donated included 1,500 bags of 5kg rice, 1500 bags of 5kg gari, 1,500 cartons of noodles, 3,000 bags of salt, 2,000 water bags, 1,500 kegs of palm oil, 7,500 bags of 1kg sugar, 750 sanitary packs, 250 pieces of mattresses, 1,000 pieces of blankets among others.
