Ex Oil Company Staff Arrested For Killing Mother,  Police Officer

The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has arrested one Aniebet Peter Uko for allegedly killing a Police Sergeant, Victor Akpan and injuring another officer. both attached to the Ikot Ekpene Divisional Headquarters of the command.

Aniebet who is suspected to be a cultist is said to have tied his mother outside their compound at No. 1 Okon Nko Street in Ikot Ekpene Local Government Area of the state.

It was learnt that Aniebet after killing his mother, ambushed a team of policemen who were drafted to the scene and killed the officer while inflicting injury on another member of the team identified as Sgt. Samuel Solomon.

Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the state, DSP Bala Elkana, who confirmed the arrest of Aniebet said that he has confessed to the crimes.

He said the homicide section of the State Criminal Intelligent Investigation Department (SCIID) is investigating the case adding that the suspect would be charged to court at the conclusion of investigations.

In a related development, a 54-year-old man has been arrested for an alleged forgery and obtaining money under false pretense and impersonating the police.

Emmanuel Eyo was arrested in a hotel in Eket local government area while posing as a spy assistant commissioner after collecting N5 million from a contractor in a company at Oron under the guise of providing them with security personnel but absconded.

According to the police,  the following items have been found in the suspect’s possession; 23 fake spy police shirts and 20 trousers, 25 police belts, 27 lanyards, three fake SPO’s identity cards, three white berets, six caps, badges, nine black berets, one officer’s shoe and three fake Inspectors’ identity tags.

The PPRO who also confirmed the incident said the suspect was an ex oil company security spy officer who worked with them for a period of time but “does not have a permanent resident other that staying from one hotel to the other.”

He said the suspect would be charged to court.
