By; OJO SHOLA, Kaduna.
Operators of tricycle in Kaduna has called on the state Governor, Malam Nasiru Ahmed El-rufai to enforce the ban on commercial motorcycles operators otherwise known as Okada riders from operating in some part of the state.
The Secretary-General of Association of Tricycle Owners of Nigeria, Kaduna State Chapter, Malam Ashiru Danlami, disclosed this while leading a protest embarked upon by his members to drive home their point from Rafin-Gusa, Igabi Local Government to Kawo in Kaduna North Local Government.
Malam Ashiru said some of their members disposed their motorcycles to buy tricycles in order to be able to cope with the ban, but some group of Okada riders, who evaded the state now carry on with the business while the security agents turn blind face to the act.
He further explained that these Okada riders are visible around Kaduna metropolis with passengers.
He reminded the state government of impending danger that led to the ban in the first instance, adding that their activities jeopardize security of lives and property in the state.
“When the past administration stamped out the ban, there was a lot of controversy that surrounded it but people later realized the goodness of the idea. So, for the administration, who claimed to be people oriented to allow the problem to resurface does not mean well for the state” he stressed.
One of the Okada Riders, Usman Bello, said the economic situation of the country made some of them into the business, adding that if the state government wants to stop them, it should provide them with alternative.
