Governor Nasir Ahmad el-Rufai of Kaduna State on Wednesday, called on military formations in the state, members of the public and private sector to come to the aid of the legionnaires who served the nation well during their active years in service.
Governor el-Rufai, who was represented by his deputy, Architect Barnabas Bala Bantex, said this at the launching of the emblem of the Armed Forces Remembrance Day Celebration held in Kaduna.
He said, this is to honour the fallen heroes who fought in various wars and paid the supreme price for the existence of the nation and humanity.
The Governor said, the Armed Forces Remembrance Day should remind us of sacrifices and the need to alleviate the suffering of all those who made sacrifices so that we may live today.
According to him, it’s also to soberly focus on the plight of those heroes that are lucky to be alive but have suffered deprivation as a result of wars.
He appealed to members of the society of the pledges that were made to the legionnaires in the previous years and those that will be made today to be readily redeemed.
He urged members of the Nigerian legions to consider establishing profitable ventures and to take advantage of the conducive government policies and programmes to enhance the financial viability of the association and make their members self-employed and self-reliant.
The governor called on the people of Kaduna State and Nigerians to continue to ensure peaceful coexistence in order to engender rapid socio-economic development of the beloved state and country.
He launched the year 2018 emblem and hoped that the donation made would be judiciously utilized for the progress of the association.
He disclosed that, the Kaduna State Government has donate the sum of 1.5 million Naira as part of its contribution towards the development of Emblem Launch of the 2018 Armed Forces Remembrance Day.
He expressed that as part of his own contribution, he donated 500,000 Naira, as he remembers some of the fallen heroes who contributed towards the development of this great country.
The Governor was decorated by the chairman, Nigerian Legion of Kaduna State, Colonel John Tabat as a symbol of all Legions that have departed and those who were alive
In a remark, the Chairman of the Nigerian Legion, Colonel John Tabat called on the state government to see to need of widows and orphans in the society.
He thanked the Kaduna State Government and all the military who made pledges and redeemed them in the Nigerian Army and others who had contributed immensely towards the remembrance day, while praying for more blessings from above.
