Dikko Inde: Why the Truth Must Be Told – AHRPA

An amalgamated association based in Lagos, Associates of Human Rights & Political Awareness (AHRPA) has condemned in strong term the alleged 17 exotic cars recovered from the immediate past Comptroller-General of Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Alhaji Abdullahi Dikko Inde.
AHRPA President, Dr. Are Owosepe told journalists that they were in Kaduna to ascertain the truth after examining the legendary record of Inde in the Nigeria Customs Service.
Owosepe explained that after their finding, it was discovered that the cars were arranged to smear the good name and record of the retired officer.
Owosepe said that AHRPA is not supporting illegal acquisitions of wealth through corruption or outright looting of the national treasury by leaders but added that in investigating leaders, facts and honesty should be the watch word not induced vendetta from perceived opponents.
He said that the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) is doing good work in many discoveries and recoveries of looted funds from homes and accounts of some indicted government officials and politicians, but taking it far to plan machination and implicate some innocent leaders should be done with caution. He advised government to properly investigate the truth behind each discovery before making it public.
The AHRPA president also said that much as he is not exonerating Inde, other facts might emerge if thorough investigation is conducted into exotic cars discovered from the former Customs boss without liquid cash. He further said that the Abuja and Kaduna homes of Inde was invaded earlier and nothing incriminating was discovered but a year later, these cars were recovered from another of his house, left much to be desired. He disclosed that upon investigation by AHRPA, it was discovered that only two of the cars belonged to the embattled Customs chief.
He explained that the parking lot of Inde was used by his neighbours whose cars are being suspected to be Inde’s, the owners of the cars investigation reveals have the papers, Owosepe added. He said that it was leant on good authority that the owners are ready at any time to prove their ownership of the cars.  The AHRPA chief said that all hands must be on deck to support the EFCC in the fight against corruption but indicting people that has served meritoriously in the pages of newspapers will speak ills of our leaders before the world.
He further said that setting the precedence of make belief of corruption of people with impeccable record of service to the nation should be discourage for Nigerians and indeed the world to have faith in our anti graft agencies’ investigation and indictment.
Owosepe enumerated achievements of Inde in the Customs to include raising financial profile of the government which was not done before him in the helm of the Customs, also the Customs Academy Gwagwalada-Abuja which is more equipped than touted Brazilian Customs Academy as world best. He said that Abdullahi Inde needs to be celebrated and not vilified as it is being orchestrated.
