Members of the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnic, Federal College of Agriculture, (FCA) Ibadan has vowed that the on-going strike continues until all their demands are met.
The ASUP members in a statement made available to newsmen in Ibadan signed by its Zonal Coordinator, ASUP Zone C Comrade Olawale Adetunji Omobaorun said the Institute’s management “must stop scratching the surface and fully implement the FG directives”
According to the ASUP members,“the letter of reinstatement dated 27th February, 2017 given to four of the suspended executive members of the union by Dr Adelekan-led management of the college after several months of outright denial of the receipt of any directive from the Federal Government was a mere scratching at the surface of the whole FG directives given to the Management of the college  through a letter dated 16th December, 2016 with Ref. number AGR/909/1 and signed by Mrs Shobowale, A. A., the DHR FMA&RD.
“Letters of reinstatement were issued to the four suspended executive members of ASUP, FCA Ibadan by the Dr. Adelekan-led Management of the College through the office of the college registrar, Mr Abimbade Abass. Having gone through the letter, ASUP observed that it only addressed just one item of other items in the FG’s directive which states that the suspension order placed on four (4) executive members of ASUP, FCA Ibadan Chapter must be lifted”it said.
ASUP added that “other items on the directive which Dr. Adelekan-led Management in the college has been directed by the Honourable Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Chief (Hon) Audu Ogbeh to implement since 16th December, 2016 are yet to be implemented.
“These  include that all queries issued to the union executives on the basis of their activities in the union must be withdrawn; no staff must be denied participation in promotion exercise except those with disciplinary case against them; all outstanding salaries, promotion arrears, conference allowances and other benefits denied or owed the union executives must be paid; last promotion exercise conducted without the representatives of the Ministry (FMA&RD) is null and void (a new date should be fixed in due course);
“The membership of ASUP and its activities should continue pending the recommendation of the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment
It is in light of this that ASUP describes the letter of reinstatement issued by the provost as a mere scratching at the surface of the entire FG’s directive. ASUP, once again, insists that not until when other directives are implemented or written commitment like MOU as to how to implement the remaining aspects of the directive is secured, our members shall continue with the industrial action which has regrettably crippled the entire academic and administrative activities in the college since Tuesday, February 21, 2017”.
The union pointed out that “interestingly, the letter of reinstatement issued to the four suspended executive members has finally confirmed the veracity of the consistent claim of ASUP that there is actually an FG directive to be implemented at the disposal of Engr. Dr. Babajide Adelekan which he has shamefully denied at different platforms including the electronic and print media”.
They also alleged that “the Provost also refused to attend a meeting scheduled for Friday 3rd of March, 2017 where all these key issued were expected to be treated and a reasonable agreement reached” saying,“it is in view of this that, ASUP, once again calls on well-meaning Nigerians particularly parents, guardians and students who are interested in an immediate end to the on-going and lingering industrial crisis in the college to prevail on Dr. Adelekan-led management in the college to immediately and unconditionally implement other items in the FG directives”.
