CONGRESS for Progressive Change (CPC) in Sabon Gari and Zaria Local Governments haev rejected last Saturday’s local government election.
Speaking at a press conference in Zaria yesterday, both chairmanship candidates, Alhaji Yusuf Salihu and Alhaji Lawal Jibrin said, the election should be declared null and void because of irregularities.
According to them, the election was improperly conducted by SIECOM, and called for its cancellation.
They wondered why election results were announced without following due process as in line with the electoral law. They also called on their supporters to remain calm and law abiding while measures were being taken to right the wrong.
Commenting on the matter, Barrister Muhammadu Ibrahim Madu, said the ruling party has failed, and called on the governor to look into this ‘undemocratic act.’
He expressed dismay over how election materials were abandoned by SIECOM staff at various polling centres, only to declare the results.
Following the briefing, the chairmanship candidate displayed the abandoned electoral materials and reported to the police.
Meanwhile, both candidates have vowed not to go to court because of lack of confidence in the state’s judiciary.
