COP Vs Alhaji Bright Suffers Another Adjournment



A case between Commissioner of Police and Alhaji Abubakar Iliyasu (Alh. Bright) has suffered another adjournment following the inability of the defence lawyer, Barrister S.M. Ali to prepare his defence hearing.

Alhaji Abubakar Iliyasu (Bright) is standing criminal charges and theft before Chief Magistrate Court sitting at Chediya Road G.R.A., Zaria.

When the case was mentioned, the prosecuting officer, Barrister Alex A. Aku a senior state counsel told the court that he is ready for the continuation of hearing but the defence counsel Barrister S.M. Ali said, he is not ready for the proceeding.

Barrister Aku reminded the court that the case is slated for today 13th September 2017 for the definite hearing but surprisingly, the defence side still not ready.

Barrister Ali the defence counsel applied to the court to invite all the witnesses that have testified because he wants to cross examine them, and the prosecuting officer accepted the application saying he is right to seek for that.

After hearing all the parties involved, the Chief Magistrate Auwal Musa announced the 4th of October, 2017 as the adjourned date for the cross examination by the defence counsel.

In a related development, the Chief Magistrate Court Chediya, G.R.A., Zaria has also adjourned a case between Commissioner of Police and Alhaji Yunusa Ali, Shuaibu Shugaban Samari and Alhaji Abubakar Iliyasu (Bright) who are standing trial on criminal conspiracy, trespass and theft to 4th October, 2017 for the continuation of hearing.

This case has been adjourned severally because of the defence side inability to put its house in order for the case to progress, following the change of counsel by the accused, Alhaji Abubakar Iliyasu (Bright).
