Controller Distributes Drugs To Prisons In A’Ibom



As part of effort to address the health challenges of prison inmates, the Controller of Prisons, Akwa Ibom Command, Mr. Alex Oditah, has distribution of drugs to Prisons in the state.

The drugs distributed include, Antibiotics, anti malaria, anti typhoid, anti fungal and hypertensive drugs as well as other consumables.

Speaking to journalists in Uyo on Wednesday after distributing the drugs, Mr. Oditah said the drugs were sent to the Command by the Controller General of Prisons, Alhaji Ja’afaru Ahmed.

Oditah said that the controller general had directed that the drugs be distributed equitably to all the Prisons in Akwa Ibom Command.

According to him, Eket prison has taken their consignment while Ikot Ekpene, Ikot Abasi and Uyo would come for their consignment later.

He explained that the quality of drugs would be enough to take care of inmates for at least one year.

The State Controller lauded the Controller General and the medical team of Nigeria Prisons Services for their kind gesture.

Also speaking, the Deputy Controller of Prisons (Nursing) in the state, Mrs. Cordelia Ezeala, assured that the drugs would be judiciously used for inmates.

Ezeala added that the Command would not stop at distribution but would do the monitoring to ensure that drugs were used properly.

It would be recalled that the state Controller of Prisons in the recently took delivery of the drugs from the Controller General for onwards distribution to Prisons across the state.
