From DAUDA MBAYA, Maiduguri
Road construction work in Borno State which were abandoned as a result of the attacked on Chinese Engineers, will soon be completed, as the Borno State Government yesterday revealed that the Chinese construction workers who fled the state will come back after the Christmas break.
The Commissioner for Works and Transport, Engr. Ibrahim Bukar disclosed  this to newsmen during an inter-ministerial press briefing on the achievements of his ministry, held at the Conference Hall of the ministry of information, Maiduguri yesterday.
He said the government has been in constant discussion with the fleeing expatriates and they have agreed to return back to site after the Christmas celebration and that the government is arranging security for them.
It could be recalled that most construction works were stopped on major projects in the state after the killings of Chinese Engineers handling various projects that were either nearly completed or completed and were forced to flee as some of their colleagues including Indian nationals were assassinated in the troubled state few months ago.
The commissioner, who lamented that works have stopped on major projects in the state, said on their return most of the projects nearing completion would be completed and put to use.
He said in spite of the security challenges of the state, the Kashim Shettima administration has invested heavily in the provision of infrastructure in the state.
Bukar said this has added to reduce the heavy burden of unemployment and to improve the security situation of the state.
The commissioner said inspite of the security challenges bedeviling the state, the Borno state government through the State Road Maintenance Agency (BORMA) has completed and are still working on some road projects across the state.
