Arewa Youths to ACF, NEF; Act fast to curtail Biafra agitation

By; AMOS MATHEW, Kaduna.

Arewa Youth Development Foundation (AYDF) has written to the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) and the Northern Elders Forum (NEF) to act quickly and take a position in the face of the humiliation of Northerners in the East by the Igbo Biafra group and their governments.
The group said it has resolved to convey a meeting of all Northern youth groups in Kano in few days time to review the commitment of Northern leaders’ actions on their previous communication in respect of the agitation by the Igbos.
The group declared this position in a letter jointly signed by Barr. Aliyu Usman of AYDF, Hon. Aminu Adams of Arewa Citizens Action for Change (ACAC) Bridget Cantiop Yahya of Northern Emancipation Network (NEN), Comrade Yusuf Muhammed of Arewa Students Forum (ASF) and Terkular J. Bishama. Of Arewa Youth Vanguard (AYV) and made available to newsmen in Kaduna at the weekend.
The statement further added that the meeting will map out plans for widespread and sustained protest to ensure that severance of the present federal arrangement that includes the Igbos as a federating unit is halted.
The statement explains that the Northern Youth action was necessitated by renew threat of secession by Igbo’s secessionist group which is backed by some of their governments and leaders with renewed humiliation and harassment of petty Northern traders and residents in the East by those Igbo groups.
The Arewa youth also cited that their action is as a result of outright utterances by Eastern governments and leaders that tend to declare all Northerners residents or passing by the East as persona non granta.
“It will be recalled that on the 16th of July 2014, a coalition of over 50 Northern youth groups matched to the palace of the Emir of Kano under the aegis of Arewa Youth Development Foundation and submitted a position paper in reaction to the humiliation of northerners in the East by the Igbo Biafras and their state governments.”‎
In their submission, the youth decried the move by Eastern state government to impose residence permits on all northerners residing or carrying out business in their states.
“The Youth groups issued a two weeks ultimatum for all Northerners residing in any part of the eastern Nigeria to return home and for Igbos residing in any part of the Northern region to act likewise.
“In response to that protest, the then National Security Council met and issued a directive for the suspension of the purported action against Northerners in the East and appealed to us to suspend our action” the statements added.
