Another Collapsed Building Kills Two In A’Ibom

At least two persons have been confirmed death in another collapsed building in Onna local government areas of Akwa Ibom state.
 
The incident occurred 10 days after the December 10th Reigners Bible Church strategy that claimed 26 lives.
The state Commissioner of Police (CP) Murtala Usman Mani, who confirmed the incident which occurred Monday at a popular Edere Obo market in the area, explained that those who died were women.
“Two women died because an old wall felt on them, and unfortunately, they died”, the CP, said.
Several others who escaped death with varying degree of injuries were recuperating in various hospitals and clinics in the local government area.
Eye witness, Madam Lucy Akpan told our correspondent that a section of the market crashed in the early hours of 7.00 am when the weekly market was in full session.
The market which is located at Ikot Akpantek Village is the nearby Village to Governor Udom Emmanuel and his works commissioner, Mr. Ephraim Inyan-eyen Village has further reinforced the existing panic and aftershocks that followed the recent Church collapse, which led to the death of several worshippers.
The works commissioner, who immediately mobilized emergency rescue team to the scene, dismissed the dead claim, arguing that “only seven persons sustained minor injuries”.
Another government official, Mr. Raphael Edem, the Special Assistant (SA) to the Governor on Public Affairs, raised the figure of injured persons to eight, saying the victims were currently being treated at the Immanuel Hospital, Eket.
