The Ogun State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun has called on Officers and Men of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) to intensify surveillance in all the border areas to further guarantee security in the nation
Governor Amosun made the call while declaring open the Comptroller General of Immigration Annual Conference 2017 with the theme, ‘’Managing Migration and Facilitating Trade and Development in the 21st Century Nigeria: NIS Perspective,’’ in Abeokuta.
While highlighting the importance of Immigration Service in the country, Amosun explained that migration was part of life and there was need to strengthen and take charge of the porous borders in the State, saying this would help in reducing the flow of illegal aliens coming into the country through the borders.
Amosun who frowned at the illegal migration of Nigerians to foreign lands, admonished the NIS to intensify efforts so as to put an end to the unnecessary loss of lives.
The Governor while commending the Service for its efforts at making passports and other travelling documents accessible and for making National Identification Number a prerequisite for issuance of international passports, enjoined them to have at least one office in the three Senatorial Districts of the state to further ease applicant’s stress,.
In his address, the Comptroller General of Immigration Service, Mr Mohammed Babandede, explained that the theme for the conference could not have been more apt as a result of the public outcry on the atrocities committed against Migrants in Libya.
Babandede who expressed readiness of the NIS to provide improved services to Nigerians and foreigners, said the conference would examine the current Presidential Executive Order on the ease of doing business as well as review the process and the document of the e- passport.
