As a way of finding sustainable solution to the current food crisis facing the Nigerian Nation, agricultural experts will as from December 3, 2017, brainstorm on the disturbing issue of food crisis.
According to the Dean, faculty of agriculture, Imo state university (IMSU Owerri, Professor Ben Ekenyem, the agricultural experts will convey at the University of suggest and find remedies to this problem.
Speaking with the media men in his office, Monday, professor Ekenyem, explained that, concerned about the ugly situation of food crisis, the faculty to mark the Silver Jubilee of the university, which he said has clocked 28 years old.
The Dean, further said that this conference was planned to attract, major stakeholders in agriculture, who would find ways of solving the food crisis and alleviating poverty in the country.
He pointed out that this is encapsulated in the theme of the conference which according to him, is “sustainable production and poverty reduction with the sub-them” Harnessing the potentials of the environment”.
According to him, the venue of the international conference is the Imo state university auditorium, by 10amfrom December 4 to 6, 2017.
He announced as chief host, professor Victoria Adaobi Obasi, the vice-chancellor of the university and the host is Professor B.U. Ekenyem.
Dean faculty of agriculture and Vet. Medicine, while the special guest of honour is the state governor, Chief Rochas Anayo Okorocha.
Professor Ekenyem, believed strongly that the conference which will find solution to this crisis, will bring together the farmer, researchers and other stakeholders on agriculture to discuss, on ways of solving the problem, share research findings and breaking through modern agriculture.
Further, he said, the conference will reoriented the Nigerian youths on prospects of agriculture especially in job creation, income generation, foreign exchange earnings, helping to reduce youth restiveness and violent crimes.
The conference he said will further showcase agricultural development in Imo state and visit some modern poultry and crop farms, create a forum for proper interaction between scientists in agriculture and farmers.
He explained that there will be exhibition of agricultural production, processing and mechanization and also award of honours to distinguished farmers in the state.
