National Coordinator of Odua Peoples Congress (OPC), Otunba Gani Adams has asked President Muhammadu Buhari to adopt the recommendations of the 2014 National Conference to move Nigeria forward.
Otunba Adams who said this while speaking at the annual retreat for OPC leaders in Oyo state also warned politicians in the South-West to steer clear of the group.
Adams maintained that without fiscal federalism, the country will be moving in circle unless the states are allowed to control their resources.
He stressed that without adopting the recommendations of the 2014 National Conference which he said addressed most of the challenges facing the country, Nigeria will only be sitting on a keg of gun powder.
On the warning to SW politicians, Otunba Gani Adams said OPC members are not thugs to be used for violence, saying, “whenever there is violence in parts of the region, politicians are fond of calling on OPC members”.
He declared that the present crop of OPC members are not cut out for such, adding that he has given instructions to  members of the group who are illiterate to go back to school to at least have basic certificate.
“The time to use members of the OPC as thugs is over for good, the OPC under my leadership will do everything humanly possible to position the group as a decent and responsible organisation out to protect the interest of the Yoruba race rather than that of an individual”, he said.
Otunba Adams added that with education, members of the group will be able to position themselves as responsible citizens rather than thugs, asserting that while politicians will easily want to use members of the group as thugs, they will not call them when they want to share the loot they steal from the nation’s commonwealth.
“With myself as an example, coming from a background of a carpenter but now with a degree, I have made the importance of education known to every member of the group, telling that with everyone of them being literate, the era of OPC as organisation for thugs will become a thing of the past.”
