Fresh facts have emerged on how Governor Nasir el-Rufai of Kaduna State was endorsed by all the stakeholders of the party in an enlarged meeting of the party leaders at all levels, at Murtala Square in Kaduna.
The endorsement followed a motion by Malam Kasim Iliyasawa, member representing Zaria City Constituency “on behalf of the masses and the people” of his Constituency.
Honourable Garba Datti Babawo the member representing Sabon Gari Federal Constituency also raised the motion on behalf of the members of both the National and State House of Assembly, while Honourable Yusuf Zailani (Chief Whip of the State House of Assembly) seconded on behalf of the members.
Thereafter, the state party Chairman on behalf of the party and the governor accepted the call for Elrufai to re-contest.
It was at this point all of the party leaders and exco members from the 23 Local Government Areas of the State unanimously supported the motion. The meeting also endorsed the continuation in office, of President Muhammadu Buhari , “without prejudice to anyone”.
The Special Adviser on Political Affairs and Intergovernmental Affairs to the governor, Malam Uba Sani, urged the party faithfuls in the State to shun the politics of bitterness or grudges and love one another, saying this was the only way the party can succeed now and in the future.
Malam Uba, whose office mobilized the stakeholders from across a broad spectrum, also commended all the stakeholders for what he described as “their uncompromising stance and solidarity” towards the Elrufai administration. He added that the stakeholders have demonstrated not just their unalloyed loyalty and sincerity, but political maturity.
The meeting, which political observers described as a unique carnival of “powerful forces and kingmakers” of the ruling APC at State and national levels, also featured an uncensored question and answer session from the floor to the high table, with Governor Elrufai responding by giving clarifications.
Governor el-Rufai also seized the moment to seek for forgiveness for whatever wrong he might have done to either the attendees at the meeting or anyone outside the party circle in the state, since he assumed office a little over two years ago, saying he was by no means infallible as a human being.
The meeting also resolved to redouble efforts in continuous communication with party faithfuls, including those who are reasonably aggrieved; to reward hard work and punish any acts of disrespect towards the party’s constitution.
The latest endorsement is coming shortly after series of meetings by women cooperative societies and other female political heavyweights in various parts of the state, notably Kaduna metropolis and Zaria okayed Governor Elrufai’s continuity in office by 2019.
