2019: Discard Imposition Of Candidates, Ex Speakers Forum Tells PDP

Determined to return to power in 2019, main opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has been strongly advised  to discard practices inimical to the growth of party especially the imposition of candidates at primaries of various elective positions to strengthen internal democracy  of the party and synergize towards a new dispensation. 

Members of the Forum of PDP Former Speakers of State Houses of Assembly (PDP – FOFSHA) who gave the advice at it’s monthly  regular meeting held at the Gombe Jewel Hotel Abuja, also  urged all party faithful to close ranks were there are misunderstandings “so that all hands can be on deck for the victory of the Party at all subsequent elections leading to ultimate success in 2019 Presidential election. 

In a communique respectively  signed by the forum’s interim national chairman, coordinator and secretary Rt. Hons. Inuwa Garba, Friday Itulah and   Dr. Dogara Matoh, and made available Wednesday,  urged the Party’s to amend the constitution by broadening the base of participation by including former speakers and their Deputies of State Houses of Assemblies, elected Members and critical stakeholders at the National and State level in demonstration of the renewed spirit in the party.

Forum stated that “The meeting was well attended by Members from the length and breadth of the Country with some Members travelling in from the diaspora.

“After very fruitful deliberations on the current State of our Party, and the potentials of coming into government in the up-coming elections in Anambra, Osun and Ekiti States and leading to the general elections by 2019 and beyond FOFSHA”and came uthe   resolutions that: to congratulate the Chairman, His Excellency Sen. Ahmed Mohammed Makarfi and Members of the PDP Caretaker Committee, His Excellency, Ifeanyi Okowa, Executive Governor of Delta State, who was the Chairman, Convention Planning Committee and indeed all Party Faithfuls on the very successful conduct of the Special Non elective National Convention held on the 12th of August 2017 at the Eagles Square Abuja-FCT.

 “urge all Party Faithful to close ranks were there are misunderstandings so that all hands can be on deck for the victory of the Party at all subsequent elections leading to ultimate success in 2019 Presidential election.

” That practices which are inimical to the growth of our great party especially the imposition of candidates at primaries of various elective positions be discarded with a view to strengthening the internal democracy  of the party as we synergize towards a new dispensation.

“To amend the Party’s constitution by broadening the base of participation by including former speakers and their Deputies of State Houses of Assemblies, elected Members and critical stakeholders at the National and State level in demonstration of the renewed spirit in the party.

“To encourage all States that Caretaker Committees were inaugurated to abide by the constitutional provisions of the Party, the ruling of the Supreme Court in the recent judgement and give all the needed cooperation to the National Caretaker Committee leadership and also ensure all-inclusiveness in the affairs of their various states.

 “To congratulate the winner of the PDP primary elections in Anambra State and appeal to all warring factions to close ranks so that we can be proud to take over the affairs in the State come November 18th2017.

“To note that though statistically recession may be over but this government under His Excellency Muhammadu Buhari should know that until Nigerians are able to see visible changes equivalent to what they experienced under the PDP era, their efforts should rather be the challenges of facing the economy and reduce despondency and insecurity among Nigerians instead of the media rhetoric”, it stated.
