1ST DAY OF ISLAMIC NEW YEAR, KEBBI TO OBSERVE PUBLIC HOLIDAY

KEBBI State Government has concluded arrangement to observe public holiday on the first day of Islamic New Year, Special Adviser to Governor Saidu Usman Dakingari on religious affairs, Malam Abdullahi Mohammed Imam Shema has announced.
Speaking to newsmen in his office in Birnin Kebbi, Alhaji Imam Shema added that the plan by the state to observe 24 hours public holiday on the first day of every Islamic New Year, was informed by advice given to the state by learned scholars.
The adviser also explained that coupled with the advice received from various personalities, Kebbi State is also a home state of the famous Islamic scholar, Abdullahi Gwandu who worked tirelessly with Sheik ibn Fodio in propagating Islam in the northern region and Muslims being the majority in the state, as such, the state is supposed to join other states that observe the public holiday.
On the work of Hisbah officials in the state, the special adviser said they have ensured sanity by keeping vigilance on criminals in Birnin Kebbi metropolis.
According to him, Hisbah officials go round the state every day to ensure that there is no movement of criminals in the metropolis and many arrests were made.
“I cannot tell the number of persons so far arrested, but I know there are many young men and women in Hisbah custody awaiting to be prosecuted in the court of law,” Imam Shema said.
On zakkat and Sadaqat committee, Malam Imam Shema revealed that Government has increased the money given to the committee yearly, by fifty percent.
He assured that all the monies the committee receives are given to those enshrined by Islam to be given zakkat.
He called on people in the state to always assist his office with useful information about criminals just as his office has been working round the clock to ensure peace reigns in all part of the state.
