Unbeatable El Amin lift 12th Georgian Cup

Keffi Ponys could not withstand the fire power of El Amin as they fell 3-12, giving El Amin a clear victory that saw them winning the Georgian Cup for an unprecedented 12th time, in a match watched by several dignitaries on Thursday at the Kaduna International Polo Tournament.
The Mohammed Babangida inspired team started slowly, losing the first chukker 1-2, as Ponys were awarded a bonus point at the commencement of the match, added to the one goal they scored, with El Amin scoring only one.
In the second chukker, El Amin put two past Ponys, with the latter scoring one, ending that chukker in a 3-3 tie.
As action resumed for the third chukker, Africa’s top polo player, Bello Buba inspired El Amin to scoring two goals before the chukker ended, while Ponys failed to find their rhythm.
In the fourth chukker, El Amin scored another two goals, while Ponys secured one, ending 7-4.
Only one goal was scored in the fifth chukker, courtesy of El Amin as it ended 8-4.
The sixth and final chukker of the game saw El Amin score a whooping four goals, to bring the highly entertaining match to an end to the delight of the fans that thronged the Ahmadu Yakubu Polo Club House.
With this win, El Amin will be crowned champions again, as the curtains draw on this year’s tournament.
El Amin had earlier beaten Guards Brigade Rubicon 9-7 in the Georgian Cup opening match for this edition, in a highly competitive match.
Rubicon came from that defeat to thrash Keffi Ponys 8-4 in the second game, before El Amin sealed victory by spanking Ponys 12-4.
The Georgian Cup is Africa’s most prestigious polo trophy and has been competed for since 1919.
Dignitaries that watched the match include the Emir of Katsina and Life President of the Nigeria Polo Federation (NPF), HRH Alhaji Abdulmuminu Kabir Usman, Lamido of Adamawa, HRH Alhaji Muhammadu Barkindo Aliyu  Musdafa, Speaker of the Katsina State House of Assembly, Hon. Alkiyu Sabiu Ibrahim  Muduru and the President of the Nigeria Polo Federation, Mr. Francis Ogboro.
